For some reason, this photo speaks to me. I remember the day I took this photo. I was in the Serengeti National Park, in a jeep with 4 other women from my Intrepid Group. The roads were bumpy and dusty. My hips were bruised from being banged around. My DSLR camera was always in hard. My HDSD card was almost full. My camera battery was running dangerously low. Bachu had been extremely patient with all of our outrageous demands (we were joking most of the time, but I think he took us seriously. He delivered on most of them. We tipped very well). When one of us spotted this Giraffe off in the distance, Bahcu pulled over and turned off the jeep. I took several shots, but this is the one I like the most.
As I scrolled through Lightroom last night, I came across this photo. I haven’t seen it since it was taken due to my hard drive crapping out. As I looked with fresh eyes my mind focused on the scene around the Giraffe. The dry yellow grass that slowly moves in the wind. The patches of trees and shrubs. A small mountain in the distance. The blue sky, void of clouds. The Giraffe starring into the horizon with its back to me. In minutes I felt as though I were the Giraffe. I felt as though I was starring off into the African horizon again. I felt calm and peace as I continued to stare at this photo.
What do you see when you look at this photo?

Loved the photo! Although the giraffe does look a bit lonely..
He was lonely. We couldn’t see any giraffes (other than the one) when we stopped.
Such an incredible picture, it reminds me of all the African safaris I have been lucky enough to have been on. I cannot wait to go back on safari this year, were from Canada and are planning on going to the Kruger National Park for the second time, its so incredible! Great post.
