Fish Head Curry Challenge

Fish Head Curry

Fish Head Curry in Penang

Fish Head Curry is one of those delicacies that fellow travelers SAY you should eat “At least once in your lifetime”, but secretly snigger about it behind your back, praying you’ll be a sucker and actually do it.

From the moment I heard about Fish Head Curry, I’ve secretly prayed that I wouldn’t find myself in a situation where I’d have to eat it. It’s not the best looking meal. Although, Tracy Burns and I have talked a fews times about trying it (I’d have to be drunk first). I’m sure the flavour is lovely, I just don’t fancy having a big ugly fish head starring at me while I eat. In fact, having the above photo starring at me while I write this post is grossing me out. Yuck!

I’m sure you’ll ‘nestled’ down onto your sofa or chair (hahaha, I used the word nestled, on purpose! I’m such a rebel), getting ready to read all about how I went to a local restaurant here in Penang, tried Fish Head Curry and won. If that is what’s happening, you are in for a big disappointment my friend. I have not, I repeat, NOT tried Fish Head Curry. In fact, the closest I’ve ever gotten to Fish Head Curry was this morning when I snapped the above photo with my iPhone. No, this post is about a competition I’m having with Colin Burns.

The beer cans belong to Colin, the Coke Light is mine... lol

It’s like this. Colin and I both enjoy soda, Coke to be specific (I’m a Diet Coke girl though, none of the regular stuff for me). However, soda (as most of us know) isn’t really healthy. Over the last week my Diet Coke intake has increased quite a bit, and I’ve started to notice the affects.

“I need to stop drinking Coke, it’s starting to affect me too much”, I announced, hoping I would feel more inclined to follow through. “Yeah, I need to stop too”, Colin added.  That’s when the challenge came into play.

Colin and I are competitive people, which makes having a challenge like giving up Coke (and ALL SODA) a lot more fun. “We need to find something that the loser has to do”, Colin suggested. “Yeah, that’s a good idea”, I added. “What do you guys want to do as a punishment?”, Tracy asked. “I don’t care. I’m going to win, so it won’t matter to me”, I added with a huge grin. I. Will. Win.

As we sat eating dinner, Tracy, Colin and I tried to figure out what we could do to make the competition more interesting. That’s where the Fish Head Curry comes in. Neither of us want to try it, which makes it the perfect punishment.

So, this is the challenge….

Colin and I are competing to see who can last the longest without soda. The loser will have to eat Fish Head Curry. Did I mention the loser also has to have their photo taken, licking one of the fish’s eyeballs? Seriously gross. I am NOT doing that! Which is why I MUST WIN!!

There is a possible snag in our punishment. In a few weeks all of us will be heading up to Chiang Mai and both Colin and I are pretty sure that we won’t cave before then. So, we need a new gross food as a punishment. Do you have any suggestions?

P.S. I am SO going to make Colin my bitch….
